Difference Between Casting And Forging
Dec 02, 2021
Casting is the process of pouring molten metal into a mold to obtain a casting, changing a shapeless metal liquid into a shaped solid. Casting is like playing with wax. You buy wax (metal material), and you turn that wax into a liquid, and put it in a mold for something, so you get different shapes. (solid-liquid-solid)
forging is a solid state of plastic forming, including hot and cold processing, such as extrusion, drawing, pier rough machining, punching and so on. It's like making a pastry. You knead the small dough into a mold to make different shapes. Almost like a solid at high temperature, the shape can change to other shapes. (solid to solid)
Forging is slow forming, casting is forming.
Casting: molten metal fills the cavity and cools. Pores are prone to occur in the middle area.
Forging: it is mainly extruded at high temperature. The particles in parts can be refined.
